So will the new Windows 11

After six years of faithful service, Windows 10 is about to retire. And Microsoft has now introduced the successor, which logically got the name Windows 11.

And it’s a freshly polished and polished Windows interface that we’ll see when it’s available later this year. This is reflected in everything from the new start button and taskbar to sounds, fonts and icons.

The start button is located in the middle and the taskbar has also been centered (just calm down – it can be placed on the left!). And you can see the most recently used files no matter what platform and device they have been opened on. Whether it’s Windows, Android or iOS.

Focus on collaboration

There is a focus on collaboration in new Windows. This is done with so-called Snap Layouts, Snap Groups and Desktops, which will provide an overview of parallel projects. Microsoft Teams will also be integrated directly into the taskbar. Which hopefully will also mean that Teams will at least get a little easier to get started with.

Widgets

But it does not always have to be about pure efficiency. Various widgets lie like a “glass plate” over the desktop and present a stream of relevant (and other) information, without you having to lift the phone. All in order not to disturb the work in progress – just distract us from it.

Microsoft promises that Windows 11 will use the hardware better in gaming contexts. Both in the form of faster graphics with DirectX 12 Ultimate, DirectStorage, which should improve loading time and better color reproduction with automatic HDR.

New app store

Microsoft’s own app store has been leveled and completely rebuilt. And a new design and better performance are promised. This is welcome because the software store has so far been the slowest and most dysfunctional in the software industry. In the future, you will be able to find apps like Microsoft Teams, Visual Studio, Disney +, Adobe Creative Cloud, Zoom and Canva in the Microsoft Store. Instead of downloading them from the manufacturers’ websites as before.

Security

Windows 11 has so-called Zero Trust technology, which is supposed to “protect from the chip to the cloud across all devices.” The new set of hardware security requirements that come with Windows 11 should provide a foundation that is more resilient to attacks. Windows 11 is also designed to protect students – whether at home or at school – by blocking dangerous and inappropriate content.

Its free

And what does it cost to switch to Windows 11? If you are already running Windows 10, the answer will probably be zero dollars. According to Microsoft, Windows 11 will be available through a free upgrade to Windows 10 computers.
