Kamagasaki

Clean and Beautiful, that’s the word that comes to mind when you hear it Japan. But who would have thought, this country has a very slum city.

Her name is Kamagasaki. Located in Southern Osaka, Nishinari-ku region, this city is far from modern.

Reported from The Guardian, the city is full of unkempt buildings, scattered trash and unemployment. Yes, this city is a place to live for those who are homeless.

In 2008, Kamagasaki was inhabited by 25,000 daily workers, most of whom were elderly. About 13,000 of them are homeless.

If you are homeless, it means you don’t have a home. So where do they live?

Yes, these homeless people sleep on the streets. Not a few slums that swarm near empty buildings.

Quoted from skdesuKamagasaki was once a city devoted to shinsekai project workers aka settlements in South Osaka.

After the project was completed, the Osaka government requested that the workers return to their respective areas. However, they refused and chose to stay in Kamagasaki.

So many homeless and unemployed, the Japanese government took the initiative to erase this city from the map. The intention is so that there is no traveler who came there.

The level of cleanliness of this city is not very good. So in the end the city was erased from the map.

Now Kamagasaki’s name has changed to Airin-chiku. The name Kamagasaki was only used from 1922-1966.
