So scary! People Died Gegara Corona Translucent 3 Million

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The number of deaths due to the corona virus globally reached 3 million people as of last Saturday (17/4/2021). This was triggered by repeated setbacks for vaccination campaigns around the world, as well as worsening crises in Brazil, India and France.

Reporting from CNBC International, the number of lives lost due to Covid-19 is almost the same as the population in Kyiv, Ukraine; Caracas, Venezuela; or metropolitan Lisbon, Portugal. This number is also greater than Chicago, United States (2.7 million) and the equivalent of Philadelphia and Dallas combined.

This number is also believed to be higher than data compiled by Johns Hopkins University due to possible concealment of figures by the state government, as well as many cases that were ignored in the early stages of the outbreak that began in Wuhan, China in late 2019.

“This is not the situation we want in the 16 months of entering the pandemic, during which we have proven control measures,” said Maria Van Kerkhove, one of the leaders of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Covid-19.

Worldwide, deaths are increasing again, averaging around 12,000 per day, and new cases are also increasing, surpassing 700,000 per day. In Brazil, 3,000 deaths are recorded per day with the more contagious virus having spread across the country.

As the world passed 2 million cases of Covid-19 deaths in January, the immunization push was just beginning in Europe and the US. Currently, they are ongoing in more than 190 countries, although progress in controlling the virus has varied widely.

However, most of the poorer countries and some of the richer countries are lagging behind in vaccinating and imposing new lockdowns and restrictions as cases of the virus soar.

Globally, about 87% of the 700 million doses distributed have been given in wealthy countries. While 1 in 4 people in rich countries have received the vaccine, in poor countries the figure is 1 in more than 500 people.
