Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Last week, the European Minister and the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, made an official visit to Indonesia on 23 and 24 November 2021. During this visit, Le Drian held a special discussion agenda with the Defense Minister (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo.
The meeting discussed topics regarding France’s Indo-Pacific strategy in enforcing international laws and regulations. However, a source said that there was a serious agenda that Paris was pursuing for Prabowo.
To Straits Times, The source said that France wanted to know more about the planned purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets which in June had been suppressed in the press conference letter of intent. Indonesia became their new client.
Indonesia itself was previously reported to want to bring this French-made fighter jet. This was conveyed by the Air Force Chief of Staff (KSAU) Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo a few months ago.
He said the Indonesian Air Force from this year to 2024 would soon realize the gradual acquisition of various modern defense equipment. Two of them are multi-role combat aircraft, the Dassault Rafale and the F-15 EX.
As is known, France is pursuing the sale of the most advanced Rafale fighter jet to many countries. In more than 25 years of existence, the jet has faced challenges and has come in many variations.
This mission was quite successful in several countries, one of which was the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which pressed the deal to buy this French-made fighter jet on December 3, 2021. Unmitigated, Abu Dhabi reportedly bought 80 units of this fighter jet.
quote Reuters, The deal itself will reportedly be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron is known to be in Dubai, UAE, to attend Dubai Expo 2020
Reported from France24, This sale is historical and confirms the continued commercial success of the French fighter, a twin engine jet that can operate from both land and aircraft carriers.
For Dassault, Thales (the company that supplied all of the Rafale’s internal electrical systems), Safran (which provided the engines) and several hundred other subcontractors, the deal meant guaranteed business for more than six years. It takes at least a month to produce the Rafale.
The Dassault Rafale is not just any fighter jet. The aircraft is claimed to be capable of force projection and deployment for external missions, deep attack missions, air support for ground forces, reconnaissance missions, attack pilot training, and nuclear deterrence tasks.
