The great storm of indignation has subsided for now. After the 2: 3 in the city derby at FC St.Pauli, many HSV fans vented their displeasure with the help of social networks and accused the professionals of a lack of will. On Sunday, the reparation should follow in the Volkspark against Darmstadt (1.30 p.m., live on Sky). But how much patience will the followers show if things don’t go as desired from the start?
You are now clear on at least one point. 17,955 fans can be there on Sunday, exactly 855 (five percent) more than last against Dresden. The HSV received this announcement from the authorities on Wednesday. Amazing that it took the city a full six days to make this decision. The club’s wish to allow 25,000 fans, however, was thrown out. The only question is what will be the mood of those who will now be there.
Darmstadt is the feared opponent of HSV
The opponent is not really good as an encouragement after the derby hangover. Darmstadt of all places. Both clubs have met five times since 2016 in the Volkspark, the dreary HSV record: one draw, four bankruptcies. A mental mortgage that is compounded by the failure at St.Pauli. The bottom line is that coach Tim Walter and his team are already under a lot of pressure on Sunday.
Can the professionals withstand him? Or is there now also the derby receipt from the fans?
In the course of the training week, the resentment has so far been limited. After a “failure” poster was hung on the training grounds last Saturday, the day after the Derby bankruptcy, but was removed before the professional team started, there were no incidents in the days that followed. The ultras also keep the ball flat.
HSV fans have sometimes given up after the Derby bankruptcy
Anyone who listens to the fan circles, however, already hears a good deal of resignation at this early point in the season. Tenor: Which action should still be fruitful in order to make it clear to the professionals what is required? Even before the season started, the Ultras had insisted on the importance of the Derby victories and renewed this point of view after the cup success in Braunschweig (five days before the city derby). Some of them visited the professionals on their return to the Volkspark, lit pyro, encouraged them. The result: an achievement that many found clearly too unemotional.
It is unclear how the fans will react against Darmstadt. Expressions of displeasure before kick-off are not to be expected – also because the opinionated ultras for reasons of solidarity will forego their visit to the stadium before the entire ticket contingent may not be used up. It is to be expected, however, that the patience of the fans will reach their limits much sooner if the start is shaky.
City allows 855 additional fans to the HSV game
In the meantime it is at least clear how many tickets HSV can sell. Around 15,000 cards are gone so far, but the city’s actions caused head shaking and irritation in the Volkspark. It took the authorities six days to come to the decision to add 855 guest cards to the 17,100 tickets. Result of the hanging game: It is no longer possible to send the tickets to Darmstadt due to the short time until the game, announced the HSV. Guest fans have to get their tickets online from HSV – and then, if in doubt, sit between Hamburg fans. A ticket chaos for which the city is responsible.
