Vaccinations have been taking place in our country for about two months. During that period, about 500,000 vaccinations against the coronavirus were placed. The vast majority did not experience any side effects, yet a number of reports were received.

Medicines agency FAMHP has provided an update on the number of side effects of the corona vaccine in our country. Through March 1, 494,969 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. 4,090 adverse reactions were reported, including 374 serious. In the latter case, this concerns people who are temporarily incapacitated for work or who are unable to leave their home due to fever, muscle pain, feeling unwell and / or reactions at the injection site. There were also 46 reports of deaths.

Do not plan too much on the day of vaccination

Vaccinologist Isabel Leroux-Roels (UGent) explains in Gazet van Antwerpen that “it is best not to make too many wild plans on the day after your vaccination”. “So don’t get vaccinated on the day before a tight deadline or an exam. Companies and hospitals should also not vaccinate an entire shift in one go, because then normal operation can be compromised. It is also better not to do it at the same time for the two parents in a family, because perhaps there will not be much food on the table in the evening ”, it sounds.

Not immediately cause for panic

She also emphasizes that you do not have to worry immediately if there are any side effects. “You just have an alert immune system that kicks into action. This is certainly more common in younger people, in older people the immune system is less active and therefore there are fewer side effects. But even without you build up enough antibodies to be protected, ”she concludes.
