So goes the electoral race for governorships

The House of Representatives is already expected to be under Republican control. The results in the Senate will have to wait yet another month. In the gubernatorial race, Democrats had a stellar night, Politico reported, but Republicans are also leading a solid run.

This year, 36 governorships participated in midterm elections for new candidates and others for re-election.

Of the remaining 14 states, 8 have Republican and 6 Democrat governors. The balance before midterm was 22 Democratic and 28 Republican governors.

Democratic governors

Democrats won gubernatorial races in the “blue wall” states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin on Tuesday, allowing them to resist Republican efforts in those states to limit abortion and voting rights, Reuters reported.

  • So far, Democrats have won a total of 17 governorships, including; Maine; Massachusetts; Michigan; Wisconsin; Minnesota; Rhode Island; Connecticut; New York; Pennsylvania; Maryland; Illinois; Colorado; California; New Mexico; Kansas; Hawaii and Oregon.
  • Two government tenders in Nevada and Arizona remain too close to announce, but in Arizona, the trend is turning blue.
  • In Arizona, Katie Hobbs, who defended the results of the 2020 state election, is the Democrat in competition with Kari Lake, a Republican and former journalist turned far-right advocate, reported the New York Times. .
  • The most recent victory was in Oregon, where Tina Kotek faced Christine Drazan, a Republican, and Betsy Johnson, an independent. With Kotek’s victory, Democrats retain control of that governorate, as they have for the past 36 years.

Republican governors

For their part, the governors of the Republican Party have also won 16 governorships, including the re-election of Gregg Abbott in Texas and Ron DeSantis in Florida, on which doubts arise about the end of his term, due to strong rumors about his intentions to conquer the White House.

  • Republicans have won governorships in Idaho; Vermont; New Hampshire; Wyoming; South Dakota; Iowa; Ohio; Nebraska; Tennessee; Arkansas; Oklahoma; Alabama; Georgia; South Carolina; Florida and Texas.
  • The race in Nevada is close between Democratic nominee Steve Sisolak and Republican Joe Lombardo, but the latter leads. For his part, in Alaska, Republican candidate Mike Dunleavy has a large lead over Democratic contender Les Gara.
