MADRID – Foreigners bought more homes in Spain during the first half of 2022 than in the same period in 2021. In total, 72,987 homes went to foreign owners. It is surprising that the Dutch, Irish and Norwegians have bought far more homes than in the first half of 2021.
According to data from the Consejo General del Notariado published by the housing portal Idealist.es acquired, the Dutch seem to have bought 121.5% more homes from the beginning of January to the end of June 2022. In the first half of the year, the Dutch bought a total of 3,641 homes. This is not only a record number of homes for Dutch buyers, it also places the Netherlands as the seventh country on the list in terms of foreign buyers, well above Belgian homebuyers.
Dutch buyers provided the largest increase during the first half of 2022 with 121.5% more homes purchased, followed by Norwegians with 119.5% more and the Irish with a 106.7% increase. Belgian homebuyers are on the list with nearly the same number of homes bought, or 3,637, but the increase is less than half that of the Dutch, or 56.7%
Most of the houses are still bought by the British with 7,793 houses, followed by the Germans with 7,457 houses, by the French with 5,632, by Moroccans with 5,387, by Romanians with 5,006 and by Italians with 4,467 houses bought. Seventh on the list are the Dutch with 3,641 homes purchased, followed by Belgians with 3,637 homes purchased in the first half of 2022.

On occasion 2021 86,524 homes were bought by foreigners, 15.3% of the total 565,523 homes sold that year. The British bought the largest number of homes in Spain with 7,560 homes. The Germans are in second place with 6,677 homes, followed by the French with 5,298 homes purchased
According to the data, the Dutch bought a total of 4,651 homes in 2021, of which 3,007 in the second half and 1,644 in the first half. 1,506 houses were bought by Dutch residents in Spain and 3,145 houses by non-Dutch residents. In addition, the Dutch spent an average of € 2,298 / m2 in the second and € 2,100 / m2.
According to the data, Belgians bought a total of 5,864 homes in 2021, of which 3,543 in the second half and 2,321 in the first half. 1,146 houses were bought by Belgian residents in Spain and 4,718 houses by Belgian non-residents. In addition, the Belgians spent an average of 2,060 euros / m2 in the second and 2,020 euros / m2.
