After playing the second leg of the knockout stages of the second round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League on 8 and 9 September, we now know the 16 teams that will be in the pots of the group stage draw next Monday, the 13th in Nyon
Once the second elimination round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, we already know the 16 teams that will make up the four groups of the new format of this competition.
WFC Zhytlobud-1 Kharkiv, Hoffenheim, SL Benfica, Arsenal, Real Madrid, HB Køge, Wolfsburg, Breidablik, Häcken, Juventus, Servette y Olympique de Lyon they are the 12 teams that have passed their qualifying rounds. These will join the current champion, the FC Barcelona, and to champions of their respective suspenders, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, thus conforming the 16.
The Monday 13 will be held in Nyon the lottery that will shape the four groups from which the 8 quarter-finalist teams of the tournament (the first two will pass). There will be four pots with four teams each. In the first will be the current champion and the three league champions mentioned above. The rest of the pots will be made up according to the UEFA coefficient of each team, from highest to lowest.
Therefore, the drums will be as follows:
- Pot 1: FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea
- Pot 2: Olympique de Lyon, Wolfsburg, Arsenal y Breidablik
- Pot 3: Häcken, Juventus, Hoffenheim and Real Madrid
- Pot 4: WFC Zhytlobud-1 Kharkiv, Servette, HB Køge and SL Benfica
The Lyon olympic, champion team of the tournament for five years in a row between 2016 and 2020, lost the last final against FC Barcelona, as well as the Ligue 1 title in favor of Paris Saint-Germain, a tournament they had been winning for the last 13 years. These facts condemned him to play the previous phase and, therefore, now, to be in the hype 2. It will be the rival to avoid for the seeds.
The Real Madrid, revelation club in the tournament, and one of the fittest teams in Europe, comes from eliminating in the previous round at Manchester City, one of the most powerful clubs in England. The “low” UEFA coefficient makes it in the hype 3, so it will be another of the rivals to avoid for the rest of the clubs.
Juventus, Wolfsburg and Arsenal are other clubs that, despite not being in the first pot, must be taken into account for this group stage.
What will the raffle bring us? Will there be a group of “death”?
