[SNS세상]Citizen reporter who exposed the situation in Wuhan in China was sentenced to 4 years in prison

A citizen reporter who covered the situation in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in the early days of the spread of Corona 19, was sentenced to four years in prison in a Chinese court.

According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post and Bloomberg news agency on the 28th (local time), the Shanghai Pudong New District People’s Court sentenced citizen reporter Zhang Zan, 37, to four years in prison on charges of “public disturbance”.

The South China Morning Post explained that the public uproar charges applied to Jang-Jan have a maximum sentence of five years and are often applied when Chinese authorities seek to suppress critical personnel.

It is known that this is the first time a court ruling has been issued on a related case, with citizen reporters who have been detained or disappeared in Wuhan, such as Chun Chus and Fang Bin.

Bloomberg reported that the ruling was “the Chinese authorities’ intention to punish those who revealed the shortcomings of the initial response to Corona 19.” “The Xi Jinping regime, which is suspected of concealing the seriousness of the virus, has responded competently and thoughtfully to Corona 19. I’ve been trying to re-examine.”

Jang Jang, a former lawyer, reported on the Corona 19 situation in Wuhan in February.

Jang Jang reported the appearance of a hospital full of patients wearing oxygen masks or the situation of those who need to be tested for Corona 19 for a fee. It has also criticized the authorities for blocking the city without revealing enough information to the residents.

However, Jang Jan hasn’t posted any other posts since last May. Chinese authorities have said that Zhang Zan was detained for spreading false information.

In fact, Jang Jan’s lawyer claimed that Jang Jan was detained and tortured on the 11th. The lawyer posted a post on social media, revealing that “the authorities inserted a tube into the long-term, who refused to eat food for the fight against hunger, to inject liquid food, and to live with shackles and handcuffs.”

On the day of the trial, the lawyer said, “Jang Jan was in a wheelchair and attended the trial and was in poor health.

As this became known, the Supreme Human Rights Office of the United Nations said, “We are deeply concerned that Citizen Reporter Jang Jang was sentenced to four years in prison.” “We are a case of excessive suppression of freedom of expression in 2020. I have been talking about Jang Jan and I will continue to demand the release of Jang Jan,” he criticized.
