The onset of winter was announced shortly before the beginning of spring on the edge of the Swabian Alb. 
Spring is in the starting blocks, but winter is not going to give up anytime soon. Above all, it transforms the northern edge of the Swabian Alb into a wonderful snowy landscape. Will the winter weather disappear by the beginning of spring?

Stuttgart – March 20th is the beginning of spring, at least from an astronomical point of view – but three days before that, we in Baden-Württemberg are still far away from spring-like temperatures and sunny weather. In the Swabian Alb on Wednesday afternoon, even heavy snowfall caused enthusiasm among friends of the white splendor and anger among many motorists.
During Wednesday, for example, heavy snowfall began in the Göppingen district and in the Alb-Donau district, which, according to a spokesman for the German Weather Service, provided five to ten centimeters of fresh snow.
“On the northern edge of the Swabian Alb there was snowfall at temperatures just below freezing point, which – favored by a freshening wind – degenerated into a light snow storm here and there,” said the DWD spokesman. This caused difficult road conditions, especially on the A8 near Hohenstadt in the Göppingen district.

Winter also tried to make a comeback in the Stuttgart region, but here it was mostly light snowfall and sleet showers – but it was always uncomfortable.
And how will things continue in the coming days?
“On Thursday and Friday there is always snowfall in the southwest,” the spokesman predicts, “but it will probably not be as heavy as on Wednesday”. For the weekend, he even predicts a significant improvement in the weather. “Just in time for March 20, the sun will be visible again,” the DWD spokesman gives hope. So we can still look forward to a spring-like beginning of spring.
