Snowfall and Slippery Roads in Eastern Norway: Motorists Urged to Take Caution

A thin layer of snow has fallen during the night, and on Monday morning it is still snowing over large parts of Eastern Norway.

– It can be a bit slippery and slippery, and there is a lot of snow – especially between the lanes, says traffic operator Christofa Key-Nilsen at the Vegtrafikksentralen east to Dagbladet just before 06.30.

She encourages people to pay attention, adjust their speed according to the conditions and keep an extra distance.

– And if you don’t have winter tires on your car, then you have nothing to do out on the road today, says Key-Nilsen.

Downhill runs

A driver found out on the E18 near Asker center on Monday morning that summer tires on the car are no longer relevant, when the car skidded off the road and crashed into the guardrail.

The accident only resulted in material damage, according to the Oslo police district.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, has her driving license confiscated because of summer tires on the car, the police write on X/Twitter.

Traffic flows past the scene of the accident.

The Oslo police district warns that a lot of snow has fallen in some places during the night.

– Our appeal to motorists in the morning hours is to drive according to the conditions, keep a good distance from the driver in front, and use tires that are adapted to winter driving, the police write, adding:

– If you do not have this, the advice from the police is to leave the car and find other alternative means of transport.

In Lillestrøm, a car spun around on Trondheimsveien under the E6 on Monday morning.

– There are reports of traffic problems in both directions, writes East police district on X/Twitter.

The fresh snow has also led to slippery roads in Holmestrand. The South-East police district reports that a car has driven into the ditch, and that the driver is being checked by paramedics.

Yellow hazard warning

From the night of Monday until the night of Tuesday, the Meteorological Institute reports that there may be 15 centimeters of snow in Eastern Norway. They have sent out a yellow danger warning for parts of the area.

– If you have the opportunity to avoid travelling, you will save yourself a number of challenges. It can certainly be good to stay at home tomorrow, especially if you had thought inward towards Oslo, meteorologist Per Egil Haga told Romerikes Blad on Sunday
