Snow Storms in Beijing and China Cause Road Blockages, Transport Disruption and Flight Delays

Snow storms today caused road blockages, disruption of public transport and flight delays in the Chinese capital Beijing and other parts of the country, DPA reported.

China’s state television reported that 184 bus lines in Beijing were suspended during the morning rush hour due to bad weather. Local authorities have provided more trains and technical staff for the city’s metro to compensate for disruptions to ground transport.

According to the authorities, rush hour started today much earlier than usual, BTA adds.

Winter is one of the driest seasons in Beijing and it rarely snows.

Due to the heavy snowfall, road sections were also closed in Hebei Province, where the capital is located, as well as in the northern provinces of Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jining and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Express trains in China run at a slower speed due to weather conditions. In the central province of Henan, a snowstorm briefly paralyzed operations at the main airport of its administrative center, Zhengzhou.

Most elementary and secondary schools in the city of 10 million people have canceled classes. So far, there are no reports of accidents or casualties.
