For weeks in October 2020, celebrity magazines were full of photos of Christina Milian and her husband Matt Pokora. Holidays ? Not only ! The famous American actress had come with her family to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Mauritius, but also to work. She participated in the filming of The Unilimited Alicia Keys Project for the pay channel, Netflix.
For the purposes of this “film or series”, a street in Port-Louis was transformed, for a few hours, into a “street of New-York”. A bus stop, snow, store signs have disappeared. The illusion for producer Maggie Malina is perfect: “I am New Yorker and I felt like I was at home”, written IonNews.
Jobs and international visibility
Mauritius, like Reunion, have grasped the challenges of cinema for their image. Welcoming stars is good! That they can play a role on the spot is better!
More than 1,000 Mauritians have found employment thanks to this filming. It seems huge, but if we count the trades that intervene directly and indirectly then, we become aware of the name industry which is attached to cinema. When a director launches, silence we shoot, it takes thousands of invisible actors for the stars to express themselves.
A film offers its imaginary world. The illusion is limitless with new technologies. Often they are shot thousands of miles from where the action is taking place. If the images that light up the screens make you dream, the advertising for this place is international. It is priceless!
