In addition to some inconvenience on the road due to the snow in South Limburg, there were also many people today who enjoyed the winter weather. In some places between 15 and 25 centimeters of snow fell locally, and that means: snow fun!

A lot of schools were closed, students were given ice cream or had to take online classes. In Kerkrade, children from Diabolo primary school did go to school. The gym lessons made way for an outdoor program: igloos were built, snowballs were thrown and sledding took place, writes the regional broadcaster 1Limburg.

In Oirsbeek, which is located northeast of Maastricht, snowboarder Jesse Augustinus went down the hill and couldn’t resist taking the banister with him.

And there was also a lot of snow fun further in the province:

To avoid major problems, various measures were taken in Limburg taken. For example, Arriva buses did not run and snow plows were set out to clear roads. Bus traffic has now started again, a spokesperson said.

Furthermore, it remained quiet in hospitals, there was no extra crowds in the emergency department. A police spokesperson says that the number of traffic accidents is not higher than normal on a Thursday.

Rijkswaterstaat will continue to spread salt in the south this evening and overnight, because it can become slippery due to the snow that is still there, which can freeze. Code yellow will remain in force until 12 noon tomorrow.

Snow is still expected in the night from Thursday to Friday, but much less than today.
