No one escapes the freezing temperatures in the coming days. But first it’s snow that matters. There is a dense snowdrift at Gardermoen now a little before 6 p.m.

But at the weekend, the bubble jacket can be hung on the peg again. Then it will be milder.
But before we get that far, people in Eastern Norway have to settle for more snow, although not in large quantities.
– In Oslo, there may be around five cm of snow before midday, and the same amount applies to pretty much the whole of Eastern Norway, says state meteorologist Hanne Beate Skattør to VG on Sunday evening.
– It will be a nice day tomorrow with fewer clouds, she adds.
Also on Wednesday the sky will fall, as Anne Grete Preus so beautifully sang about snow. But exactly where the flakes land is a bit uncertain as this low pressure is not that big.
– Now it is likely that most of it will come in Østfold. There it can be between 10-20 cm. In the areas around Oslo, it will be more like 5-15 cm, it’s not huge amounts, says Skattør.
But the main picture is that it will be colder next week, before the temperature creeps up towards the weekend.
– The general weather picture is that it will get cold again. The whole country will be characterized by sub-zero temperatures.
That is the message from meteorologist on duty Espen Biseth Granan at the Meteorological Institute about the week ahead.
Earlier this week, there were reports of extreme cold, before the Meteorological Institute later issued a counter-notice.
Now they have more good news for the country’s freezer sticks.
– There will be a few cold days, but at the weekend there will be a change in weather. Then it will be milder.
The temperature drops
But it gets worse before it gets better.
The temperature will drop already on Monday. In the Oslo area it can get colder than minus 15 degrees.
Elsewhere in Eastern Norway will be able to see the negative 20s on the scale throughout the week.
– Around Thursday and Friday, the weather will be clear. This can cause the temperature to drop even more.
– At Tynset and other places in the interior, it can get down to minus 30 degrees.
In addition, there may be some precipitation.
– Not as much as in Southern Norway in the past, but there may be a lot locally. This time it probably won’t stay put – unlike last time, says Granan.
Milder in the West
Although there will not be anywhere near as much snow as at the start of the year, Southern Norway will also have to prepare for cold days ahead. The same applies to Central Norway.
The weather in both places seems to remain the same as in Eastern Norway, says the meteorologist.
In Western Norway, on the other hand, it does not look like the temperatures are dropping as much.
– It won’t be as cold as in Eastern Norway, but Western Norway will be in the cold air.
Not surprisingly, snow showers are also expected here in the next few days.
– There will be precipitation – especially on Tuesday. There is a lot of precipitation in the North Sea that can drift in towards land.
Best in Nordland
Large parts of northern Norway will also get cold. In contrast to the rest of the country, this part of the country will be characterized by easterly winds and little rainfall.
– There may be some rain on Monday, but generally it seems to be little. Varying cloud cover is expected and it will be dry.
– But it will probably be cold here too.
Nevertheless, it is the inhabitants of Nordland who will probably be next week’s weather winners.
– There will probably be periods of sun and stays elsewhere in the country – but it looks like there will be a longer period of good weather in Nordland.
Turn to the weekend
For the rest of the country, you just have to look towards the weekend.
– It can be a consolation that it is not something that will last, says Granan.
If you grit your teeth and get through the weekdays, the weekend will offer milder weather.
On Saturday, temperatures look set to rise again.
– Around Oslo and several places in Eastern Norway, the temperature can be around zero degrees at the weekend.
To the west it can be so mild that problems can arise.
– Bergen can get plus degrees and rain. If it rains on cold ground, it can get muddy. Especially with regard to road traffic.
