Snow chaos in Rhein-Main: accidents, traffic jams and power outages

Snow and slippery roads have created problems, especially on the roads. The A3 had to be closed. In southern Hesse there were injuries in accidents. The power went out in Wiesbaden.

RHINE-MAIN – In many parts of the region it snowed on Saturday night. The snow has wreaked havoc in several regions. The heavy snowfall hit car and truck drivers particularly hard. the A3 between the Wiesbadener Kreuz and the Limburg Süd junction had to be fully closed on Saturday morning for around five hours in both directions because several trucks crossed the motorway between Idstein and Bad Camberg. By late morning there were significant traffic obstructions on the busy route because cars and trucks with empty batteries were left behind, as a spokesman for the autobahn police in Wiesbaden said. At Bad Camberg, the traffic jammed for more than eight kilometers.

Traffic on A5 and A 61 comes to a standstill

According to the police, traffic on the A5 between Bad Homburg and Friedberg came to a standstill. In the direction of Frankfurt, too, there were impairments due to a closed blanket of snow. The clearance vehicles were in constant use. In Rhineland-Palatinate, too, there have been significant traffic delays. The north of the country was particularly affected. On Saturday morning, several trucks were parked across the A61 on Dieblicher Berg, obstructing traffic.

Two injured in an accident in Roßdorf

Two people were injured on the B38 near Roßdorf (Darmstadt-Dieburg district) early on Saturday morning. A 46-year-old driver from Reinheim, who was traveling with his family in the direction of Reinheim, slipped on a snow-slippery road around 4.45 a.m. and caught oncoming traffic. There he collided with the car of a 60-year-old. A total of five people sat in the car of the person who caused the accident, two of whom were injured. These are “moderate, non-life-threatening” injuries, said a police spokesman when asked. The 60-year-old driver of the oncoming car was uninjured. Both vehicles had to be towed, the spokesman said. The police put the damage at around 55,000 euros. As a result of the accident, the B38 was closed in both directions until around 6.30 a.m.

Car overturns in Babenhausen

On Friday evening a car rolled over in Babenhausen in southern Hesse. At around 11:45 p.m., the Audi shot over the so-called “Netto-Kreisel” near the supermarket, as a police spokesman confirmed. Both inmates were seriously injured, the spokesman said. The police were initially unable to provide any information about the cause of the accident or the amount of damage.

Snow causes a power outage in Wiesbaden

In parts of Wiesbaden, in Kloppenheim and Naurod, there was a brief power failure on Saturday morning around 5 a.m. The reason for this is a fallen tree that fell on a power pole, reports FFH.

Traffic obstructions also in Rheinhessen

In the Rheinhessen / Nahe region there have also been some traffic obstructions since the early hours of the morning. According to the police, there were no major accidents, reported der SWR. According to the Gau-Bickelheim motorway police, however, several trucks have gotten stuck in the snow.

On the L233 near Bad Sobernheim, a woman slipped on an icy road and hit a traffic sign. According to the police, the woman was coming from Steinhardt towards Bad Sobernheim at around 8:30 a.m. Shortly before the town sign, the 64-year-old wanted to bring her vehicle to a stop before the narrow lane. Since this section of the route was icy, the braking maneuver initiated had little effect, so that the Toyota slid against the signs for the narrow lane. There was slight damage to the Toyota and the traffic sign, the police said. Administrative offense proceedings had to be initiated against the driver.
