Due to heavy snowfall, the World Cup downhill run for alpine skiers in Aspen on Friday was canceled after only 23 starters.
The race jury made this decision after visibility on the Ruthie’s Run course had deteriorated so much that it no longer made sense to continue.
“Due to the current weather conditions with unfair conditions for the athletes, the descent was canceled,” said the world association FIS.
At this point, Norwegian Adrian Smiseth Sejersted was leading ahead of Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr and US local hero Ryan Cochran-Siegle. Josef Ferstl (Hammer) was the best German in seventh place. All results have been deleted.
In the weather lottery in Colorado, only a few participants with low starting numbers had decent conditions. Ferstl started fourth, Sejersted opened the race.
On Saturday (7:00 p.m. CET) there is a second downhill run in the Rocky Mountains. After that there is only one more at the season finale in Soldeu/Andorra. In the battle for the small crystal ball, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (Norway/620 points) is clearly ahead of Kriechmayr (464).
