Snow chaos creates difficult driving conditions in several places

Large amounts of snow in Oslo, Viken and Innlandet have led to hectic hours for the plow crews, who have had their hands full with assignments until Thursday night.

More snow has been announced on Thursday morning, and the police are making a clear appeal to motorists.

– We recommend all motorists to adapt their speed to the conditions, and that trucks have a chain available, the Oslo police district writes on Twitter.

Must pay attention

Operations Manager Rune Hekkelstrand elaborates on the situation to TV 2:

– Snow has been reported throughout the day, and experience has shown that traffic can be slower. In some places, lorries can also get stuck, and this will lead to increased waiting time, says the operations manager.

He says that the police had to move out to around ten heavier vehicles that got stuck uphill on Thursday night.

– Plow crews work full time and the police assist where needed. But it is first and foremost the road users who must pay attention to the road and adapt to this, says Hekkelstrand at 05.30.

Shortly afterwards, the police report that a bus has been stopped in Strømsveien, which is blocked in both directions towards Vålerenga. The road is blocked until the bus is removed.

Trailers across

Elsewhere in Eastern Norway, the snow also creates problems for motorists.

On the E18 between Sandvika and Slependen, three cars have spun around. Five people were involved in the accident, and all three cars need car salvage.

On Strømsveien in Oslo, the conditions are very slippery, the Oslo police district informs.

Shortly before 6 o’clock, Strømsveien was blocked in both directions towards Vålerenga by an articulated bus that blocked the road.

The buses that were going up and down Strømsveien had to find an alternative route or wait until the articulated bus that blocked the road was removed.

– There is another bus blocking both fields. It is so slippery on the spot that the buses can not get without a chain, the police write on Tiwtter at 6.25.

On the E6 at Rygge, a car spun due to the road, while on Kløfta, a car drove into the crash barrier.

On the E18 at Ringdalskrysset, a car drove on a sign and ended up in the ditch. The driver was checked by ambulance personnel and turned out to be unharmed.

The police in Sørvest report on Thursday morning about chaos in Drangsdalen, where six lorries are stuck due to very poor driving conditions and a lot of snow on the road.

– The patrol left the place just before 3 o’clock. Then there were three bulldozers working in the area, the police write on Twitter.

At the E6 in a northbound direction after the Nøstvet tunnel, in the direction of Oslo, the police moved out to several lorries that were struggling with the line.

– There are eight trailers that are struggling and standing at a crossroads, said John-André Helgesen, operations manager in the Eastern police district to TV 2 at 05.45.

– We are there with several units, and several fields are blocked inwards. Small cars will get past, but larger vehicles will struggle, says the operations manager.

He expects that the car salvage services in particular will experience burst capacity on Thursday morning.

– We in the police can take what comes, but we expect it to be a part, Helgesen concludes.

The weather conditions also have consequences for ferry operations, and all departures on the Moss-Horten section have been canceled until further notice. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration asks all motorists to follow updated road reports and adapt their speed to the conditions.
