Snow and slippery conditions claim dead and injured in Baden-Württemberg

A driver died in snow and slippery conditions on Monday night in Baden-Württemberg. His vehicle had flown over a snow hill. There were traffic delays across the country due to the weather.

Snow, slippery roads and fallen trees again led to traffic delays and accidents in Baden-Württemberg on Sunday and Monday night. Compared to the previous days, however, it was much quieter, said the respective police spokesman. By early Monday morning, the police reported a dead person – a motorist died after he had maneuvered his car over a snow hill.

The 37-year-old had skidded with his vehicle on Autobahn 96 near Kißlegg (Ravensburg district) and was thrown over piled snow on the roadside. The vehicle flew through the air, landed on the roof, and slid another 50 meters. The man died at the scene of the accident.

Woman crashed into riding stables

In the Esslingen district, a woman came off the road when it was snowing and drove to a riding stables. She broke through the entrance gate with her vehicle and damaged several buildings – she was slightly injured.

In the Enzkreis the situation was “very relaxed” until early Monday morning, said a police spokesman. There have been a few accidents, “but mostly it was just sheet metal damage because cars got off the lane”. The police in Freiburg, Offenburg or Ravensburg also spoke of no major weather-related problems in the respective regions: “Mainly a few road closures because trees fell under the snow load,” it said.
