Snoop Dogg and Master P launched Broadus Foods in 2022, with the aim of bringing diversity to the food industry and promoting economic empowerment among minorities. They also intended to contribute to charitable causes addressing hunger and homelessness. As part of their efforts, they introduced the Snoop Cereal and Momma Snoop cereal lines.

Broadus Foods began pitching their product to various companies, including Post. However, instead of making an offer to distribute the cereal, Post allegedly attempted to buy the rappers’ company outright. Broadus Foods rejected the offer and instead entered into a partnership with Post, allowing Snoop Cereal to be distributed alongside Post’s other brands at major retailers.

Despite this partnership, the lawsuit claims that Post intentionally sabotaged the success of Snoop Cereal by preventing it from reaching consumers, particularly at Walmart. Boxes of Snoop Cereal were allegedly kept in stockrooms with “no location” coding, making it impossible for them to be placed on store shelves.

Broadus Foods is seeking unspecified damages as a result of these deceptive trade practices, which they argue also breached the contract between Broadus and Post. The lawsuit highlights the importance of fair business practices and holding companies accountable for their actions.

In response to the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Walmart stated that the retailer values its relationships with suppliers and has a history of supporting entrepreneurs. They emphasized that various factors can affect the sales of a product, including consumer demand, seasonality, and price. Walmart intends to respond appropriately once they are served with the complaint.

This lawsuit sheds light on the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in the food industry and the potential obstacles they may encounter when trying to bring their products to market.
