Snipers kill over 100 in Ethiopia massacre

More than 100 people died in a shootout this Wednesday in the Benishangul-Gumuz region of western Ethiopia.

According to the agency Reuters, which cites the state’s human rights commission, the snipers fired at inhabitants of the city of Bulen and set several houses on fire while residents slept.

According to a security official in the region, Gashu Dugaz, the authorities are already aware of the attack and are collecting details about the identities of the attackers and the victims, but have not released any further information so far.

The Ethiopian army has been fighting rebel forces in the north of the country for the past six weeks. The conflict has already claimed about 950,000 refugees.
