SNCF strike: limited impact for cross-border commuters

“From Tuesday 6 December at 19:00 to Thursday 8 December at 8:00, TER train circulation will be interrupted in the Grand Est due to a national social movement,” announced the SNCF to its users at the beginning of the week.

The French public railway company has just published, on Tuesday 6 December, the timetables of the following day, Wednesday 7 December, on the line linking Metz and Thionville in Luxembourg. Good news for the many cross-border commuters who use it: they remain practically unchanged.

15 trains will arrive in Luxembourg before 9:00 from this line, compared to 17 in normal time (taking into account current hours due to work, until 10 December). Knowing that between the two suppressions, one concerns that of 4h47 in Metz arriving at 5h11 in Thionville and 5h45 in Luxembourg. However, the 4h18 train to Metz and 5h5 to Thionville allows you to arrive at exactly the same time. The other canceled train is the one leaving Metz for 5h03 and from Thionville a 5h29for an arrival at 6h02.

On the way back, none of the trains leaving after 4 pm from the station in the Luxembourg capital are canceled or delayed.

Furthermore, the network does not foresee interruptions for the evening of this Tuesday 6 December.

These are obviously the times announced taking into account the strike, but not the contingencies that cross-border workers are used to dealing with.
