SNCF Réseau Announces Rail Network Construction Projects and Disruptions in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté for 2024

This Monday, August 28, SNCF Réseau presented its roadmap for the work it will carry out on the rail network in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Discover in this article the details of the construction sites and the disruptions to be expected at the end of the year and in 2024.

This year, 421 million euros have been invested in the modernization of the SNCF network in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Among the large-scale works already launched, the restoration of the Nevers-Dijon line, for a total of 137 million euros (including 62 million co-financed by the State and the Region).

This Monday, August 28, SNCF Réseau announced the launch of new projects in the region, with details of the dates and disruptions for users. As a reminder, the French network is between 30 and 50 years old on average. Against 15 and 17 years for our Swiss and German neighbours.

“Regular investments are essential to maintain the quality of the rail network and traffic. With the support of the State and the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Regional Council, SNCF Réseau aims to carry out an average of €350 million in annual work during the next 10 years to come.”

Among the main projects at the end of the year, the modernization of the Nevers – Montchanin and Montchanin – Chagny lines. Amount of work: 137 million euros for the renewal of the track, the hydraulic works, the level crossings but also the accessibility of the stations of Montchanin and Decize.

9 million euros will also be invested to restore the line between Les Laumes and Dijon, with in particular the modernization of electrical installations and the Blaisy tunnel. Finally, the signaling between Fain-lès-Montbard and Nuits-sous-Ravières will also be improved over 24 kilometers, for a total of 22.6 million euros.

In addition, SNCF Réseau recalls that work will be carried out on the Paris-Lyon-Marseille axis. Trains will normally run Monday to Thursday at peak times, every Friday, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. “The 2023 cuts on PLM Nord will however cause the interruption of rail traffic between Dijon and Laroche-Migennes”. SNCF Réseau has thus detailed the upcoming disruptions to rail traffic in the Region. “The means of substitution for 2024 are being studied and will be communicated throughout the year”, is it planned. Here are the details of the traffic cuts:

Between Les Laumes and Dijon, traffic cut on weekdays from September 18 to October 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Five weekend breaks between September 23 and October 22. Between Fain-lès-Montbard and Nuits-sous-Ravières, traffic cut from Monday September 18 to October 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Five weekend breaks between September 23 and October 22. On the Watchmakers line, cut from March 4 to October 32, 2024. Between Fain-lès-Montbard and Nuits-sous-Ravières, from March 16 at 11:30 a.m. to March 17 at 11:30 a.m. In Dijon, two blackout weekends: March 16 and 17 / November 2 and 3, 2024. As a reminder, the region has 587 daily circulations of regional trains and 17 railway lines. 69,000 people travel on regional lines every day.
