Snapchat’s second hardware product costs $230 per drone

Snapchat has released a limited edition selfie drone called Pixy that will set you back $230.

uncovered Snapchat-Websitea number of preset options allow the drone to follow you, circle around you, or simply hover in place before landing in your hand once the footage has been captured.

Anything recorded through Pixy will automatically move to your Snapchat memories so you can edit further if needed.

It seems that the drone will not be available in the long term, as it is only available while stocks last and is only available in the US and France. Snapchat also warns against checking your local drone-regulating laws before buying a Pixy.

This is only the second piece of hardware Snapchat has released in its 11-year history. The social media company released official smart sunglasses called Spectacles back in 2016.

Glasses can record up to 10 seconds of snaps and, like Pixy, sends those snaps straight to your Snapchat Memories for posting, sending, or editing.

The Spectacles release was also similar to Pixy in that it appeared to be more of a corporate experience than a hardware-specific move.

CEO Evan Spiegel said at the time that Snapchat was taking a “slow approach to release” because it’s “up to us to see if it fits into people’s lives.”
