Could your Snapchat friends list get shrunk a bit? When you’ve gathered tons of friends you can’t even remember, Snapchat’s Friendship Checker feature encourages you to get rid of these unwanted users.
It’s time to clean up your friends list
A contribution in Snap Newsroom highlights Friend Check Up, a new feature that runs on time for Safer Internet Day was presented . Friends review will show up as a notification on Snapchat asking you to review your friends list.
The notification reads, “Snapchat is for real friends. Tap here to check your friends list.” Selecting the notification will take you to your friends list, where you can disconnect unwanted connections.
The goal of this tool is to help you delete any users you may have accidentally added, as well as any users that you simply no longer want on your friends list. This reminder is also a great security feature. After all, you can unknowingly give certain users access to your stories and your location.
According to Snapchat, this feature will be rolled out on Android devices in the coming weeks and iOS in the coming months.
However, you don’t have to wait for Snapchat to release this feature to start cleaning up your friends list. You can do this now by going to your Snapchat profile and clicking on My friends tap. Long press the user you want to delete, tap More and click you then on friend remove > Remove .
Other ways Snapchat is improving security
In the same blog post, Snapchat announced that it is also partnering with Connect Safely in the US and ChildNet in the UK to display education filters. When you swipe up these filters, you will be linked to Internet security resources for the appropriate organization.
In addition, Snapchat is expanding its integration with the Crisis Text Line in the US and planning to roll out a similar feature in the UK. The platform also works with The Trevor Project to provide in-app resources for LGBTQ youth.
Snapchat hones close friends
The Friend Check Up feature is just another way that Snapchat is trying to bolster its image as a platform for close friends rather than total strangers.
The platform prides itself on not promoting communication between people who don’t know each other well. It’s designed for close friends, which is evident in the platform’s 64-person group cap and the fact that you can’t communicate with anyone unless you both have accepted each other’s friend request.
