Technologue.id, Jakarta – Snapchat is reportedly testing hardware in the form of a drone called Pixy. The Pixy drone hardware or rather this tiny yellow quadcopter is only slightly larger than the palm of your hand.
When flown, the Pixy will follow the owner and record a video linked to Snapchat. This feature is still in the testing phase, Snap wants to make a more user-friendly and relatively easy drone with dimensions that make it easy to carry around.
Of course, the Pixy is not like other drones. There is no controller to control the flight and you can only take off and land in the palm of your hand. Pixy also has six flight patterns already stored in it which can be accessed by turning a button on the top of the drone.

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel, admitted that the release of the drone was done because it was believed that Snap was a camera company. This tagline has been around since they changed their name from Snapchat and released Spectacles in 2016.
“Our mission is to encourage users to express themselves, enjoy life, learn about the world, and have fun together. And this product (Pixy) is a product that can be used to do all those things,” said Spiegel.
The Pixy weighs only 101 grams with an 860 mAh battery built into it. When fully charged, this USD 230 drone can fly five to eight times, each lasting 10-20 seconds.
The extra battery retails for USD 20 (around IDR 300 thousand) with a portable charger costing 50 (around IDR 700 thousand). Pixy has a camera with a 12MP sensor that can record up to 100 videos or 1000 photos stored in the 16GB built-in storage.
Snap admits that they don’t expect to get much profit from Pixy, because they claim that they hope that many people use it for fun.
“The goal is really just to get it into people’s hands and have them play around with it. And maybe we’ll make a 2nd version if people like this product,” explained Spiegel.

Furthermore, the Pixy camera itself is stored at the bottom of the drone, which can make it take off and land from the palm of the hand.
The captured photo or video is wirelessly synced to the Memories section of Snapchat, where it is edited, and then shared on Snapchat or other platforms. Snap of course also provides a special AR for Pixy.
