The social network popular with young people, Snapchat, announced Thursday that it has 500 million active users a month, at a time of growth in various parts of the world.

The platform had not previously announced a monthly active user figure, but said last month that it had 280 million daily active users.

At the opening of the Snap Partner Summit, CEO Evan Spiegel had this to say:
“We now reach more than 500 million monthly active users, and almost one in two smartphone users in the US is on Snapchat.”
Spiegel noted that “in the US, France, the UK, Australia and the Netherlands, Snapchat is becoming an indispensable part of people’s lives, reaching 90% of 13-24 year olds and 75% of from 13 to 34 years old “, reported ElNacional
Dizzying growth
According to the CEO, Snapchat experienced skyrocketing growth over the past year due to lockdowns and shutdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It also doubled daily active users in India in the last five quarters.
“Our community outside of North America and Europe is growing rapidly,” he noted.

He added that “approximately 40% of our community is now outside North America and Europe.”
Known for its disappearing messages, Snapchat expanded its partnerships with a variety of media companies including games, news, entertainment, and sports snippets.
It is also known for its augmented reality features that allow users to share their own content and shop while testing items virtually.
The company unveiled a series of new partnerships on Thursday, including one with the dating app Bumble, which allows users to share content made with Snapchat’s augmented reality technology.
