Snapchat’s new feature is useful for ensuring user safety while on the road.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – User Snapchat will have a new way to keep an eye on friends. The company introduced on Friday (18/2/2022) that it will share real time location. This feature is used as a friend system to keep an eye on friends or family who are on a date trip or heading home.
This feature is similar to the app Find My App on iOS where users who have voted can see and share their exact location. Snapchat settings can be activated for 15 minutes or several hours with individual users and are only available to mutual friends in the app.
“To reduce the risk of stalking or constant pressure to share location, users can pause sharing without sending the other party a notification,” Snapchat said. The Verge, Sunday (20/2/2022).
This feature is disabled by default and there is no option to share live time location with all Snapchat friends. To activate the setting, the user navigates to a friend’s profile and selects the duration of location sharing. Location sharing status is instantly visible in the chat window with friends.
This feature is the first live location update that Snapchat has rolled out. Users already have the option to let friends see where they last used the app that populates the Snap Map and is used by Snapchat’s 250 million users per month.
For this launch, Snapchat partnered with It’s On Us, a national nonprofit program focused on stopping sexual assault on campus. In addition to the friend system feature, Snapchat will also include an in-app message about reviewer awareness.
