Artificial intelligence has arrived on Snapchat! The popular augmented reality filter app has launched its new chatbot called “My AI”, do you want to know all the details? I invite you to continue reading and discover everything about this new tool that Snapchat has prepared for you!
Snapchat’s big gamble
We know that lately the biggest boom in technology is being carried by artificial intelligence, for this reason, all companies are wanting to get on the boat and Snapchat is one of them.
That’s why he launched his chatbot called “My AI”, powered by the latest version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snap, says this is a big step towards integrating AI chatbots into people’s daily lives.
This chatbot will sit in the app’s chat tab, above chats with friends, and will initially be available for a monthly fee of $3.99 for Snapchat Plus subscribers. The idea is that the bot will eventually be available to Snapchat’s 750 million monthly users, according to Spiegel in an interview with The Verge.
“The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to the AI every day,” he says. “And this is something that we are well positioned to do as a courier service.”
Training your own chatbot
One of the great advantages of a chatbot is that you can customize it, or rather, train it so that it only responds according to what you want.
In this case, due to the public to which Snapchat is directed, it is much more restricted in terms of responses.
“My AI” is trained to comply with the company’s trust and safety guidelines, and cannot provide responses that include profanity, violence, explicit sexual content, or opinions on uncertain topics such as politics.
And although there are still many things that need to be improved, Snap plans to improve as people use it.
It is important to note that Snap decided that its chatbot would have a profile like any other user, so that it would feel like you are talking to a friend and not to a search engine.
Personally, this struck me as a great idea, since you make it feel more personal and the interaction between both parties can flow better.
Snapchat has been one of the first customers to adopt Foundry, the new enterprise level of OpenAI that allows companies to use its GPT-3.5 model with dedicated computing designed for large workloads.
Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, has expressed interest in incorporating the LLM from other providers in addition to OpenAI in the future, mentioning that they will use the data collected by the chatbot to improve their AI efforts in the long term.
While “My AI” is still basic in how it works, Spiegel sees this as a key investment for Snap and, more importantly, a future where we’ll all be interacting with AI as if it were just another person.
This is just the beginning of what is expected to be a new era in digital communication, and Snap is at the forefront of the evolution of technology.
