Beijing, Bolong.Id – Chinese scientist make biological adhesive from mucus snail It heals luka traumatic and chronic wounds, as well as burns.
Reported from Netease News, Sunday (29/01/2023) the findings came from wound medicine used in China 2,000 years ago.
Inspired by ancient therapies, researchers at the Kunming Institute of Botany under the Chinese Academy of Sciences identified a natural biological adhesive from snail secretions.
They evaluated the in-vitro adhesion properties and in-vivo effects on wound healing.
The adhesive from snail slime gel consists of a bulk, malleable adhesive matrix that can adhere to wet tissue through multiple interactions, according to a study published in the journal Nature Communications recently.
The hydrogel effectively accelerated full-thickness skin wound healing in healthy and diabetic male rats.
Additionally, it can relieve inflammation in chronic wounds and significantly increase regeneration, according to the study.
The findings could have important implications for developing the next generation of bio-inspired tissue adhesives and bio-engineered scaffold designs, the researchers said.
