SMS: New emojis are coming to your smartphone

A few days before World Emoji Day, July 17, the Emojipedia site unveiled the list of new emojis and their probable designs expected for 2022-2023 on Wednesday. They must be integrated into the next version of Unicode, an IT standard that guarantees the compatibility of content exchanged around the world, regardless of the language or software platform used. This is developed by the Unicode Consortium, which also revealed at the end of last year which had been the most shared emoji of 2021.

A total of 31 new elements are expected to be added in the upcoming Emoji 15 release of Unicode. In the list, which is shorter than usual (that of the Emoji standard 14.0 had 112 proposals), there is a trembling emoticon, hearts in three new different colors, including the pink that users have long requested, or even hands that push to the right or left. The animal section includes a donkey, a goose, a jellyfish, a moose, a black bird, and a wing. A flute, maracas, a comb, a fan, a pod of peas, ginger and a khanda sign (religious symbol of Sikhism) are also part of the list.

Emojipedia notes that this is the first time that no person emoji have made the list of recommendations. Subject to approval, these new emojis must be validated in September and then be integrated into the various operating systems and main messaging applications from the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. Generally, they all pass the test of validation.
