Smolensk. The official program of the celebration of the 14th anniversary of the disaster

April 10, 2010 in the crash of the Tu-154 plane, which was carrying a delegation to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, 96 people died, including President Lech Kaczyński and his wife Maria, the highest military commanders and the last president of the Republic of Poland in exile, Ryszard Kaczorowski.

Smolensk. 14th anniversary celebration

On the 14th anniversary of the tragedy, the president will take part in numerous events celebrations. In the morning, Andrzej Duda laid a wreath at the sarcophagus of the late. Maria and Lech Kaczyński in the crypt at Wawel. Later, he made a statement to the media in the courtyard in front of the Cathedral, and then went to the celebrations in Warsaw, where:

• At 12:40 the president laid wreaths at the graves the last president of the Republic of Poland in exile, Ryszard Kaczorowski and Fr. Józef Joniec, priest Zdzisław Król, Fr. Andrzej Kwaśnik and at the plaque commemorating the victims of the Smolensk disaster.
• At At 2:00 p.m. he went to the monument Victims of the Smolensk Disaster and the graves of the victims of the disaster and laid wreaths there.
• At 15:15 Andrzej Duda laid wreaths in front of the monument of the late. President Lech Kaczyński and the Monument to the Victims of the Smolensk Tragedy of 2010 and at Marshal Józef Piłsudski Square.

The Law and Justice Party invited everyone to all these events the day before. The party announced that after the end of the Holy Mass, After 8 p.m. there will be a memorial march, which will set off from the Archcathedral Basilica to the Presidential Palace. Entries from the formation’s politicians have been appearing on social media since the morning. “The Smolensk disaster – the greatest tragedy of post-war Poland. It’s already the 14th anniversary, we remember,” wrote Bartłomiej Wróblewski.

The media note that this is the first anniversary of the Smolensk disaster after the change of government. Newly elected politicians also took part in the celebrations. He was at the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia and Marshal of the Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska. The mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, also took part in the celebrations.

Those in power paid tribute

After the debate began, the Marshal of the Sejm read out the names of the deputies and senators who died on April 10, 2010. Szymon Hołownia asked for a longer moment of silence to honor the memory of those who – as he said – “lost their lives on this day fourteen years ago and wanted to serve our homeland with their service, life and conduct.”

PSL politicians, led by the head of the PSL-TD club, also paid tribute to the victims of the Smolensk disaster Krzysztof Paszyk they laid a wreath in the Sejm in front of the plaque commemorating the deputies and senators who died in this disaster.

He also honored the memory of the victims US ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski. “On the 14th anniversary of the Smolensk disaster, we pay tribute to President Lech Kaczyński and first lady Maria Kaczyńska and 94 Poles – military personnel, parliamentarians, public figures and members of delegations who lost their lives on that tragic day,” wrote the diplomat.
