Smoking Reduces the Effectiveness of the Covid-19 Vaccine, Really?

According to the World Health Organization, people who smoke are more at risk of contracting the coronavirus infection and it is therefore important that they get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Not only that, smoking also reduces lung capacity and increases the risk of contracting several other respiratory diseases. Many reports add that smokers are at a higher risk of contracting severe COVID-19 results.

Recently, Dr Vishakha who is a nutritionist in India advised people not to smoke after taking the first injection of the coronavirus vaccine because it decreases the antibody response to some vaccines. Smokers can even use nicotine patches or gum if needed but should not smoke.

The doctor shared a series of posts on Instagram in which he mentioned all about what a person should do if they get a shot. He also mentioned that people should sleep 6 hours per night before getting the vaccine.

He added that people should try and do some breathing exercises to reduce stress. Not just smoking, even alcohol consumption can weaken the immune system’s response to vaccines.

Therefore, a person should avoid consuming alcohol three days before getting the vaccine.
