Smoke released in a metro train in Brussels: what happened?

A metro train was evacuated Thursday morning in Brussels due to smoke, said the Brussels firefighters and the Stib. The smoke was coming from a stuck brake pad. The incident led to the interruption of metro traffic on lines 1 and 5 between the Maelbeek and Montgomery stops, and between Montgomery and Tomberg.

The subway train had to stop between Montgomery and Merode stations, and commuters were evacuated through the subway tunnel to Montgomery station. This last station as well as another metro train located inside were also evacuated.

“Firefighters are on site and have the situation under control,” said the Stib. “There are no injuries and metro traffic will be able to resume shortly.”
