With just over a week left until the spring equinox, winter is making a comeback in Götaland and parts of Svealand.

SMHI now issues class 2 warnings for Värmland, Bohuslän and parts of Dalsland for snowfall that can cause strong drift. In addition, class 1 warnings are issued for Halland, Skåne, Blekinge, Småland, Närke, Västmanland, Södermanland and large parts of Västra Götaland with a warning for snowfall.

– It is a low pressure that moves on the Norwegian sea. It brings windy weather. We are up on hard wind gusts in general, on the coast very hard. But on the west coast it can be up to stormy villages, says Linus Karlsson.

SMHI has also issued class 1 warnings for gale winds all the way from the Skagerack to the northern Bothnian Sea. In several areas even with the risk of icing.

With the wind also comes a real snowstorm. Up to 15 centimeters of snow is expected during the night towards Thursday.

– When the precipitation area passes on Thursday, about 15 centimeters of snow is expected. Then we see that it turns into rain, which means that what settles down will most likely rain away already in the afternoon, says Linus Karlsson.

The wind gusts and snow can lead to major traffic difficulties.

– On the one hand, it can cause snow slipperiness on the roads. And the wind means that the visibility is not at its peak. Then when it turns to rain, it could be cooled on the roads so that snow that melts and rain can freeze on with the risk of slipping, warns Linus Karlsson.

And then the misery continues until the weekend.

– If we look ahead, it’s a bit unstable. Continued precipitation that finds its way in during Saturday and Sunday, both with rain and snow. The temperature is around zero.
