Steve Scott Harwell, 56, former lead singer of the group Smash Mouth, dying. According to people close to him, he would have only one week left at the most. After a series of hospitalizations, he returned home to spend the last few days surrounded by relatives and friends. The news of his worsening condition was given by the TMZ website, which cited sources close to the family.
Born in Santa Clara, California, he had studied music and singing since he was a child and in 1994, after some experiences as a rapper and in some minor groups, he founded Smash Mouth together with Greg Camp, Kevin Coleman and Paul De Lisle. The band had quickly achieved success with songs like “All Star”, “I’m the believer” and more.
Harwell in 2001 suffered a very serious mourning, with the death of his son of just 6 months, killed by a form of fulminant leukemia. According to his friends, that dramatic page in his life marked the singer forever, who began to abuse alcohol more and more, which had already been a problem for him in the past. According to some sources cited by TMZ, he had also used drugs.
Harwell left Smash Mouth in 2021 for health reasons: devastated by alcohol and with heart and liver problems, he was no longer able to face the fatigue of concerts and tours, one evening he appeared on stage in a visible state of alteration without even being able to pronounce the words of the songs.
Over the past two years, his health had progressively deteriorated.
