From January to March 2021, the smartphone market regained its pre-health crisis dynamics in the EMEA zone (Europe, Middle East, Africa), noted IDC.
Thus, 93 million smartphones were sold in the first quarter of 2021. This figure is up 20.9% compared to the first quarter of 2020. In value, the market grew by 29% to $ 31.6 billion, including $ 21.2 billion generated in Europe.
Three vendors – Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi – account for almost four-fifths of the European smartphone market alone by volume.
Xiaomi in strong growth
In Europe, Samsung captures two-fifths of the smartphone market. The South Korean group also dominates in the EMEA region. The American firm Apple, second in Europe, fourth in EMEA, is bolstered by the commercial success of its iPhone 12s.
Xiaomi, third in Europe, achieves its best performance to date. In addition, the Chinese supplier is second in the EMEA zone, according to the research company.
In Africa and the Middle East, another Chinese manufacturer, Transsion (Tecno, Infinix and Itel brands) dominates. It is also third in the ranking of the main suppliers in EMEA, despite a limited presence in Europe recently.
Oppo, finally, is also part of the top 5 smartphone sellers in EMEA.
Huawei, on the other hand, no longer appears in the ranking.
