There is one brand smartphone China, which showed a different sales performance when the majority of other brands were sluggish in Indonesia.

This was revealed by market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) in a report on smartphone market shipments in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2023.

IDC revealed that the decline in purchases had an impact on smartphones from China. Brands like Vivo, Xiaomi, realme are falling.

“The Indonesian smartphone market experienced another slowdown in 1Q23 of 11.9% year-over-year (YoY) and 7.2% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ), to 7.9 million units,” quoted from IDC’s press release. accepted CNNIndonesia.comWednesday (31/5).

Vivo was only able to sell 1.3 units of cellphones in the first quarter of 2023 with a growth of -14.6 percent since the same period last year (YoY). In the same vein, Xiaomi only sold 1.1 million units with a YoY growth of -17.2 percent.

Furthermore, Realme only sold 800 thousand cellphones (YoY -23.3 percent).

Nevertheless, IDC revealed that the mobile phone manufacturer from China, Oppo, still had positive sales figures with 1.8 million units through a 1.6 percent YoY growth.

In the same report, the South Korean brand, Samsung, also experienced a slowdown in growth with 2.1 million shipments (-9 percent YoY).

IDC Indonesia Associate Market Analyst, Vanessa Aurelia, said that the months of Ramadan and Eid which arrived at the beginning of the year had no impact on sales.

“The smartphone market showed a much lower performance than last year, even though the month of Ramadan came earlier this year,” he said.

He explained that consumer spending is focused on clothing, food and travel, not on electronic devices. Market demand is also expected to remain weak and without major drivers.
