Last year saw the lowest level of smartphone releases in China in a decade, due to a weak economic recovery and declining consumer confidence, according to the International Data Corporation. He also highlighted Huawei’s return to the spotlight with the launch of the Mate 60 device, which pushed it back into the top five manufacturing companies in China during the quarter that coincides with the holiday season, as it achieved a 36% jump in shipments. .

“Apple’s rise to first place in 2023, especially in light of renewed competition from Huawei and weak spending sentiment, represents a tremendous success for the company,” said Arthur Gao, an analyst at International Data Corporation. He added: “Apple achieved this thanks to the timely promotions and price discounts it coordinated with the external parties it deals with, which stimulated demand for its devices.”

Apple also took the throne of the largest global smartphone companies that achieved sales in 2023, after iPhone sales declined by a smaller percentage compared to sales of Galaxy phones from Samsung Electronics. However, the iPhone 15 family faces headwinds to maintain demand in China, where analysts expect sales to continue to be weak.

Chinese agencies and government-backed companies have banned employees from using iPhones and other foreign devices at work, Bloomberg News reported in December, expanding the ban on such technologies in sensitive sectors.
