You must have experienced the exhaustion of waiting in a long line at the airport during the summer vacation season when travelers flock to the country.
Incheon International Airport introduced ‘Smart Pass’ for the first time in Korea, which can replace cumbersome departure procedures with only facial recognition.

People with passports and boarding passes are waiting in long lines to enter the departure hall.
Security checkers will check your boarding pass and check your face against your passport.

In preparation for the peak season of the summer vacation season, when travelers flock to Incheon International Airport, it has introduced a ‘smart pass’ that can replace departure procedures with only facial recognition.
It is the first airport in Korea to incorporate cutting-edge facial recognition technology into the departure system.
With your passport or boarding pass ready, you can go through the departure process quickly and easily without having to wait in a long line.
You can download the app on your smartphone 30 minutes before departure and register your passport and facial information in advance.
By comparing the IC chip information embedded in the passport with 512 facial features of individuals collected from photographs, it can distinguish even if they look similar at once.

However, even if you use a smart pass, you must bring your passport and boarding pass for immigration inspection.
Once registered, facial recognition information can be used for 5 years.
It is still in the pilot operation stage and can only be used at 16 departure gates and at the boarding gates of 6 airlines participating in the smart pass business.
Incheon International Airport plans to expand the smart pass service to all departure halls from April next year.
