TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Apart from the Oppo Find N foldable phone, the company is rumored to be introducing several other technologies at the event Oppo Inno Day 2021 in China starting today, Wednesday, December 15th. These technologies include the Oppo Air Glass Assisted Reality Smart Glass smart glasses and the MariSilicon camera chip.
Yi Xu, Oppo’s Director of XR Technology, dubbed the new Air Glass as a portable, practical and accessible device. The device is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform. Weighing in at 30 grams, the smartglasses feature a single-glass design and have a Micro Spark Projector with micro-LEDs that emit information.
The exclusive projector is built from a five-lens projection system. On the other hand, the Sapphire Crystal uses diffraction optical waves which are pre-installed under the hood and are claimed to offer a 256-level grayscale viewing area along with a peak brightness of 1,400 nits.
“The company launched eyeglass frames in black and silver that have a magnetic stripe on the right temple. While the black color option will have a design full-frame, while the silver variant will have a design half-frame,” said Xu, on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
Both will be available in two different sizes. by default, Oppo Air Glass is designed to stick to the temple and can be used easily by those who wear glasses.
Oppo says that Air Glass can make seamless connections with smartphone and smartwatch Oppo. Once connected, users can adjust settings such as brightness and volume directly on the glass.
“Users can also wirelessly turn off notifications or launch and close apps using control apps installed on their phones or smartwatches,” Xu said.
Air Glass wearers can use touch, sound, and head movement to control notifications. While explaining the head gesture, Oppo executives said that the wearer can gently nod their head to open a notification and shake their head from side to side to dismiss a notification.
Users can also view notifications in full by tapping the Air Glass touch bar located on the side. Apart from that, it is also possible to switch between multiple apps by swiping along the touch bar.
Other features include mode teleprompter and translation mode. The user can tap the touch bar to move the subtitles on the glass. Oppo is also testing hand gesture tracking with the Oppo Watch to allow users to move text with hand gestures.
“Air Glass converts sound into text, then translates it into the language of choice,” said Oppo.
When released, the glasses will support subtitles between Chinese and English, although Oppo has promised to offer support for Korean and Japanese soon as well. Oppo Air Glass also offers navigation features that people can use while walking or running and cycling.
The Oppo Air Glass comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity support and includes speaker as well as dual microphones. Oppo claims that the glasses will be the third screen for consumers — after smartphone and smartwatch.
While the Oppo MariSilicon X NPU was produced in node 6nm advanced process, and has bandwidth tera-bps dedicated memory. The NPU has a 20bit Ultra HDR Image Signal Processor and is claimed to be the most energy efficient imaging NPU (11.6 TOPS/W power efficiency).
“It features RGBW Pro mode which basically helps the NPU capture 4K Ultra HDR (1,000,000:1) video and 4K Night Video,” said Oppo.
