Smart glasses: what do they do? How do they work?

At the beginning of the last decade the technology companies they began to see a new market in which to compete: wearables. This English term refers to all those day-to-day garments or accessories that thanks to technology acquire new functions or extra functions. For example: smart clothes, smart bracelets and music headphones with more functions besides playing songs.

Among all these smart glasses attracted attention. Following the model of ordinary glasses, but with a more futuristic design, companies saw the great potential that these glasses present when they have an internet connection in addition to augmented reality.

But What can these glasses do?

Thanks to the technology implanted in both the frame (temples) and the crystal itself, the options are almost limitless: for work, for leisure, on a daily basis, etc. These are some of the ways to use them:

  • Internet: it is one of the main functions that are added to any object today. Thanks to a voice command, that is to say, to an order, like What’s the weather like? We can see the answer wherever we look.
  • Augmented reality. To understand this advance, let’s think that, with our glasses on, we are walking down the street. When stopping at a store, the glasses can recognize which one it is and through an order show us the details such as their hours, products, telephone or contact. This example could already be seen a few years ago when the Pokemon Go game became popular.
  • Photos and video: By means of a voice command, or with a touch to the pins, we can take a photo of what we are seeing, or start recording it on video.
  • Exercise: Like our mobile phone, smart glasses will allow us to monitor our physical condition, the routines we have done, etc.
  • Shopping: Having access to the internet is almost synonymous with being able to make purchases and orders. An option that can be done with these glasses. Although the cursor would not be controlled with the view, it would be the voice or the touches on the sides of the mount as this purchase would be made.

Despite all the potential that these glasses have in recent years, they have fallen into a tailspin due to the need for technological advances that allow making the experience much more real without discomfort to the eye.

Advances like these are what make us realize that the future is very present.
