Last year, shopping center “Origo” saved almost 150,000 euros in energy consumption – such cost reduction was achieved thanks to cooperation with the smart energy saving solution developed by “R8 Technologies”. Since May 2022, when “Origo” started cooperation with “R8 Technologies”, the amount of carbon emissions of the shopping center has decreased by 288 tons.
The solution created by “R8 Technologies” – artificial intelligence robot “Jenny” – monitors energy consumption and automatically adjusts energy consumption to data on temperature, air quality and others. In the case of “Origo”, “Jenny” has managed to reduce electricity consumption by 20% and heat consumption by 47% in the premises of the shopping center (from May 2022 to December of this year). The smart energy saving solution allowed “Origo” to save 146,489 euros.
“We have achieved a lot in the field of energy-efficient management – we can feel sure that our energy consumption is monitored and optimized according to the requirements of our internal climate. It is also important that we can more promptly evaluate data on energy consumption and savings, as well as follow other climate measurements in the building,” says “Origo” representative Juris Lipskis.
Designed for public buildings, the R8 Technologies solution collects data on temperature, air quality and energy consumption on a daily basis. Artificial intelligence makes changes to heating and ventilation systems to achieve maximum efficiency. Changes in the internal climate of a building occur once every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. Taking into account that “Jenny” does not use pre-calculated settings, the building’s climate maintenance is continuously improving, with a comfort level exceeding 90% and an average energy saving of 25%. Such a resource control system ensures not only a frugal and environmentally friendly climate, but also the sustainability of technical equipment.
During the last years, “R8 Technologies” has started active operations in all three Baltic countries, as well as in 11 other countries in the Baltic region. The amount of real estate managed by the R8 Digital operator currently exceeds two million square meters – these are mainly large shopping centers, hotels, office buildings and public sector buildings. Among them are shopping centers “Origo”, “Spice” and “Stockmann” in Latvia, “Ülemiste”, “Rocca al Mare”, “Viru” and “Kristiine” in Estonia, as well as the hotel chain “Radisson Blu”, “Skyon” and “Swedbank” buildings in Tallinn. It is the wide network of customers that allows “Jenny” to improve its performance, gaining experience in different places and climatic conditions.
R8’s smart energy-saving tool works in favor of the customer and the surrounding environment – if it were applied worldwide, CO2 emissions would decrease globally by 1%-2%. As R8 CEO Seam Tucker concludes (Sim A stud): “Achieving global CO2 emission targets is possible through technology and engineering.” In total, R8 customers reduced their CO2 emissions by 15,000 tonnes last year, with an average energy saving of 20.2%, which provided a financial benefit of €7 million.
Using R8 technology, it is not necessary to make additional investments, install new equipment or undergo special training. The quick and easy integration of R8 systems into building climate management systems, the significant economic benefits and the relevance of energy efficiency make it one of the fastest growing companies in the field of real estate management.
R8 Technologies also offers the use of the R8 Virtual Power Plant, which allows you to earn additional income. By balancing the energy grid in the frequency market and synchronizing it with the digital operator, customers have the opportunity to save energy without losing a healthy room climate. In 2022, 18 buildings were connected to the R8 virtual power plant, which consumed 650 MWh of energy in the previous six months to balance the network, which meant a total of 300,000 euros in revenue for customers during this period.
