The city of Ostritz actually wanted to build a pumping station in the Schwarzbach area for flood protection. In the event of heavy rain, this should ensure that at the outlet of the Schwarzbach, despite an embankment, the water can flow better and faster into the Neisse. After the flood damage in 2010, a study showed that a pumping station should be built for this, says Gundel Mitter from the city’s building administration.
Fortunately, such a pumping station has not yet been built. Because now it is no longer necessary. Employees of the building yard noticed that sometimes in this area of the Neisse the water in the Schwarzbach even backs up. So there must already be a connection between the two waters.
This was confirmed after a camera inspection. This runoff from the Schwarzbach in the area of Leubaer Straße and under the Wiese Lederwerk in the direction of Neisse has not yet been documented or there were no longer any documents for it. In connection with the existing free gradient, however, the city now wants to use it.
New plans are financially secure
At their meeting in March, the city councils unanimously commissioned a company, among other things, with a benefit-cost model in an update for the project. It costs the city just under 23,000 euros, but it saves a lot more money as a result.
Apart from the construction costs, the previously planned pumping station would have cost the city of Ostritz around 2,500 euros a year. Regardless of whether it is needed or not. The new planning is already financially secure. Ostritz can count on a 90 percent subsidy.
“This is a positive development. We are saving because the people from the building yard were smart,” commented City Councilor Michael Deckwart (FDP), for example. And as Gundel Mitter reported, there is even a mobile pump included in the delivery.
