The “Smart Electric Technology” company plans to start the construction of its charging stations in Latvia.
The company’s team has already installed more than 2,000 charging stations of its own design in Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, the United States and other countries, but is currently planning to start building its own charging stations in Latvia as well.
“Smart Electric Technology” has entered Latvia with the support of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) and is currently preparing for the next phase of investment in order to offer its technologies both in EU countries and in other markets. One of the company’s pilot projects will also be implemented in Latvia, providing electric charging infrastructure at petrol stations. Smart mobility is one of the priority directions in the field of investment attraction, so we are pleased that the company continues its development in Latvia,” says Kaspars Rožkalns, director of LIAA.
The company’s team has accumulated international experience, collaborating with companies in various sectors, looking for individual solutions according to the needs and circumstances of each client. However, after evaluating the company’s further development, “Smart Electric Technology” chose Latvia as the location of its core business, where the company already understood the benefits of electric cars and the need to develop charging infrastructure.
“I first sat behind the wheel of an electric car in 2014 and still only drive electric cars. There are four cars in my family and they are all electric cars, so as an electric car owner I have a lot of experience in their operation. Therefore, during the production of the product, I know what the driver of an electric car needs to achieve comfort. We have several solutions that we would like to implement in Latvia as well. Above all, we want to make sure that every customer always has a charged battery in any moment while sitting behind the wheel of his own electric car. We want to contribute to the development of electric cars so that people are not afraid to switch from traditional cars to electric cars. One of the main drivers of the company’s development is the implementation of solutions convenient and modern for customers,” explains Grigori Sargsyan, founder and CEO of Smart Electric Technology SIA.
Currently, the company employs around ten people in its manufacturing plant established in Jaunmārupe and expects to attract more and more young specialists. The company’s future plans are significant: to open a subsidiary in the United States and expand its operations by providing charging stations in both Europe and North America.
This year, “Smart Electric Technology” won the contract of fuel and alternative energy sources AS “VIRŠI-A” for the construction of new charging stations.
According to the signed contract, 28 ports with a charging capacity of at least 150 kW will be installed in 20 “Viršu” stations.
There are currently more than 3,000 electric cars on the Latvian market out of a total of around 700,000 passenger cars. However, the number of electric cars will increase rapidly in the coming years. Infrastructure availability is one of the first steps in increasing this segment. Forecasts show that by 2030, there may already be around 60,000 electric cars in Latvia.
