Smart Communications will request an extension of the mandatory SIM registration deadline for subscribers to comply with the law. Failure to register SIMs before the April 26 deadline will result in the deactivation of mobile services. Globe Telecom urged the government to consider the extension.

Telecommunications company Smart Communications has requested an extension to the mandatory SIM registration deadline in the Philippines. Smart and TNT will send a formal letter of request to the National Telecommunications Commission and the Department of Information and Communications Technology. Subscribers have just over a week to register their SIMs or face deactivation of mobile services. Smart and TNT currently have an average of 46% of their total subscribers registered, making it difficult to enforce the compulsory move. Globes Telecom has also urged the government to consider extending the deadline.
