Thiruvananthapuram – The wall and car shed in front of the late music director MG Radhakrishnan’s house collapsed in a huge accident. The accident happened while digging a hole to build a road as part of road renovation. The car inside the shed was also damaged. Lakhs of damage was done. Yesterday morning, the accident happened on MG Radha Krishnan Road, Thaikkad.
As part of the Smart City project, the wall fell to the ground while digging a hole next to the wall using an earthmoving machine to clear the road. The car shed built next to the wall also collapsed. The car was damaged when the roof of the car shed collapsed. Neighbors were the first to hear the sound. They immediately reported the information to Chengalchula fire station.
The fire department arrived and pulled out the car that was stuck under the collapsed shed. The tiles on the roof and the floor were completely destroyed. After hearing the information, Corn Tractor and Roadfund Board officials reached the spot and contacted MG Radhakrishnan’s son MR Rajakrishnan on phone and assured him that the wall would be constructed.
The house and the wall were renovated two months ago. After that the house was closed. The family members were not informed about digging a pit next to the wall for the construction of the road. Excavation was done with earthworms and the rock beneath the wall was loosened.
Locals said that when the water authority’s pipeline broke and the water flowed, the soil underneath was heavily washed away and the wall collapsed. Another nearby wall also collapsed the other day. The locals complain that the construction seems to have been done without the supervision of officials. The car was taken out under the leadership of Station Officer Ramamurthy, Senior Fire and Rescue Officer M. Shafi, Anil Kumar, Fire and Rescue Officers Arun Kumar, Praveen and Anil Kumar.
Cracked Model School Junction:
M. G. Radhakrishnan Road has been closed to traffic for road renovation. This is the road from Vashuthakad, DPI side, via Thaikad Bharat Bhavan, passing Dharmashastrakshetra and easily reaching Model School Junction. Due to accidents and construction delays, the misery of local residents has increased.
MG Radhakrishnan’s son MR Rajakrishnan says, ‘Two months ago the house and the wall were renovated and a plaque with the pictures of father and mother was installed in front of the wall. I thought that when the road named after my father is beautiful, the house should also be beautiful. About 8 lakhs of rupees have been damaged. The difficulty lies in the destruction of the beautiful wall in memory of my father rather than the financial loss.
