Head Basarnas RI Marsdya TNI Kusworo said the plane pilot Smart Air Captain M Yusuf, who crashed in Nunukan, North Kalimantan, cried when he was found. Kusworo assessed that Captain Yusuf was touched that he was found after trying to throw the SOS code.
“You can, you can, you can, from the start (communication) you can crying. Maybe he was touched, he already did it SOS code Yes, that’s the existing procedure for us. “Of course, the search team at that time was also assisted by our friends from the Indonesian Air Force, so via Boeing 737 from Makassar,” said Kusworo to journalists at the DPR RI building, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (14/3/2024).

Kusworo said that Captain Yusuf could be found because there was a cloud of smoke and signal movement. This was the reference for the SAR team to provide assistance.
“He (TNI AU via Boeing 737) was able to monitor that there was smoke and signal movement and there were special signs that predicted that at that time the team that detected it was made by a living human,” said Kusworo.
“So there we can draw a conclusion that there were still signs of life, therefore personnel and aircraft were immediately deployed at that time from Tarakan, at that time there were the Indonesian Army and then the Air Force,” he said.
Kusworo said that currently Captain Yusuf’s condition is gradually improving. He hopes that Captain Yusuf will recover soon.
“So, since it was first discovered, the condition was still weak, and there was initial treatment from our team, from Basarnas or assisted by joint SAR, which had relatively carried out initial actions, including evacuating on the plane and being evacuated to the airport. Furthermore, if I monitored it, it was stable, yes, so yes, God willing, hopefully fast be healthy,” he continued.
The pilot of the Smart Air plane, Captain M Yusuf, which crashed in Nunukan, North Kalimantan, was found safe on Sunday (10/3). He waved goodbye after surviving 3 days in the forest.
