“A major problem in the new Erasmus+ program is that mainly ‘big’ projects are selected, while smaller ones also deserve to be selected.” This was stated by the Bulgarian MEP Momchil Nekov at a meeting with the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Tibor Navrachic in the EP. The young socialist also drew attention to the fact that the number of approved projects for mass sports in “Erasmus+” is extremely small.
Nekov recalled that the recent corruption scandal in FIFA could have disastrous consequences not only for football, but also for sports in general. “The support for international educational projects within the framework of Erasmus+ and the fight against doping and match manipulation is an important tool through which we can promote the development of grassroots sports,” he was emphatic.
Commissioner Navracic, for his part, guarantees that the commitment to invest 300 million euros in support of sports will be fulfilled and also that the European Week of Sports, which will be organized for the first time this autumn, will be promoted.
